Some recent leather work
« on: July 19, 2019, 02:08:15 AM »
A few pieces of recent work.
The fitments on the sword cross belt are hand made.

The blacked out valise is fully lined in horsehide

Beautiful work James!  That’s what I love about this site...there’s always new project inspiration!  I’m gonna have to attempt one of those valises.

Very nice leather work and your stitching is also very nice. Is the dye you are using Fiebings Pro Dye? The color is very uniform and consistent in color. What did you use as a top coat finish?

I was just studying the pictures again. I don't know which part is most impressive.  The decorative stitching on the sword belt is a bold display of skill.  The metal work on the same is drool worthy.

The valise is spectacular.  I have a portmanteau from Williamsburg (half price at auction!), but yours is VASTLY nicer.  That lined leather should last someone the next 200 years with care.  I am guessing the stitching that goes from the body to the ends travels at an angle?

The coasters are little jewels.  The stamping is clean as a whistle, and that fine stitching really sets things off.

Thank you for sharing James.

Best wishes,   Marc

Thanks all.
Paul, I use all kinds of dyes. Pro and standard fiebings. The key is to cut all of that stuff and creep up on your color. I shared that with Marcruger a year or so ago and he has been able to come to super shades on his leather.

Marc, yes the stitching on the valise is at an angle. Fun stuff : )

J. Please, I look forward to conversing with you.  We talked about a private class last year. Maybe we need to set up one for making that valise.
