I lucked into this gorget a little while ago. It's hallmarks indicate sterling silver made in London in 1773. Still working on trying to make out the maker's mark, which is quite worn. The 72nd Regiment is, in my opinion, likely the Royal Manchester Volunteers. Raised in 1777, and disbanded in 1783, the Regiment never set foot on American soil, but did defend the Rock of Gibraltar from the French and Spanish when they laid siege to the fortress after entering the war on America's side.
