what determines the length of the breach plug flair building a lancaster rifle with a c weight 54 or is it what ever looks best ?

There must be enough length to accommodate the tang screw and perhaps a filed finial behind that.  And the tang screw must pass through the tang and the stock at 90 degrees to the tangent of the tang/wrist and intersect the front end of the trigger plate.  These things shall be verified in your blueprint-drawing in your planning stages.  Having more steel behind the tang screw and finial, is not useful or desirable....in a Lancaster rifle.
