Does anyone else save their cards from Trail Walks?  I started saving them in January - don't know why I didn't start sooner.
 I marked the date and calibre on the cards. Note there are only 4 different rifles used, .40, .45, .58 and .69.  There are only 15 good cuts with 2 posted that aren't complete due to card warpage - oh well. :D  I note most of them are with the .40 - both as a longrifle and with the barrel shortened to 36" and mounted on the canoe rifle's stock.

Good idea.  Some things cannot be bought.  Knew a person that converted a Jaeger type rifle I built that he bought from me.  Itwas a 50 and he converted it to a 62 for a card, split the ball on the axe type rifle.  I remember getting into a shootoff on a card cut.  Two of us cut the card.  I had my 40 the other guy a 32.  All the bigbores missed.  Good shooting

10 out of 15 with the squirrel rifle - .40's rule!  I missed the card on our Rendezvous trail walk - with the .69 - didn't even touch it.

Express sight, Harry - wide V and small bead. Put the nonseeable black line of the card's edge in the middle of the bead and bingo - easy! HA!  I do admit cards are esier to see against a snow background - sometimes.

 not far,maybe 10 yards. i got a bunch too with the little forty,a few with the smoothie.Got one with the.62 at our local shoot,missed twice yesterday with the forty.LOL a re-entry.missed also!

Well, for this year at least, I'm sticking with my "closed" buckhorn sight Daryl.  Don't feel inspired enough to make new sights.  Hopefully by the snowy-cold season I'll be up for it.  I might cut a slot in the top of the rear sight just to avoid any sour grapes though.

Yeah - better not cheat Scott, or Don! (not that you would, of course :D.)
  Hatchet Jack as 15 at home shot with the .50 Flint Hawken and at least that many shot with his various 20 bores.  Wish I'd started collecting them earlier, I'm way behind. Taylor's got one or two as well - HA!

Mine are scattered through my shooting box from over a 30 year period.  There are not enough to be dated and such.  There are so few that I can remember each one on sight.

I've saved some over the years, especially the 4 I hit in a 5 card shootoff at 25 yards.

That's good shooting Mark - I've only managed 3 in a row continual shooting - twice - and they were 2 Sundays in a row as well, one with the .40 and the other with the .58 Musketoon - course, they shoot big balls.

Possession of ANY split playing cards is good shooting - there are lots of shooters and some normally good shots who have possession of none.  Match gitters and a negative approach to shooting the thin black line cause off-shots for everyone, now and then.  I've also missed three shots in a row - sometimes one is 'on', sometimes not. The more you shoot, the more 'on' times you'll have.

That was definitley a day to remember. I've hit singles a time or two but that day was special. Hope to be able to see well enough to try it again soon. Being an eternal optimist, look for my ALR chunk shoot entry, I mailed it today.

We used to give themaway at shootings demos.  Kids loved them.  We gave away a bunch of balls too.  We cheated at demos by cutting stakes as wide as our front sights.  Just cover the stake and raise up a little, another happy kid. ;D
