This is an O&U Jaeger I finished last year.  Dave is I believe correct, Ed Rayl made the barrels for this project.  This was one of those been there done that bought the T-shirt.  One was enough.    Hank

You'll spend far less  money buying an original.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Hank, that's a marvelous piece of engineering and craftsmanship. Most interesting is the off hand lock arrangement. I know you did not buy that lock off the shelf. Maybe you could start another thread so you don't take this thread over. I would love to see more details of the locks. Great job.
Thanks Jim

Original DB flintlocks are as scarce as hen's teeth.  :)

Pedersoli is offering a double barrel flintlock. It looks pretty good from the photos  I've seen. I don't recall the cost, but I wanna say 1200 to 1500.

Over $1700 I think. It's ugly as sin too.

I thought the most economical way to build a double is plug a set of modern barrels ?
Opinions are expensive. Rich people rarely if ever voice their opinion.

Yep, but I always used Damascus. Why go through all that work and end up with boring barrels.

I am getting tired just thinking of making the locks for a double barrel gun.
I think my last ones were for Allen Sandy----------maybe.

Lobo,

I just ordered a pair of 20 bore barrels from Rice.  I checked a sample barel out at the Gunmakers' Fair this summer and they were light and very well done.  Jason is making light smooth bore barrels from 4140 steel.  I ordered a pair of octag-to-round tapered 20 bore barrels cut to 34" for my next double.  You might want to talk to Jason.

Smoothbore would be OK but a SXS rifle/smoothbore would be my first choice

If wanting a pair of tapered round or octagonal rifled bls., I'd contact Bobby Hoyte.
You should research originals and hopefully get measurements.  American made DR's may or
may not have had 'English' tapers which should end up in a 9 1/2 pound SxS rifle in 14 bore (.69), or so.
That would be the ultimate hunting rifle, if shooting parallel.
