Don Stith Early Flint Hawken
« on: September 05, 2019, 04:21:33 AM »
Earlier this week I removed my original topic on the flint Hawken I assembled using Don's new component set for an early flint full stock Hawken.  Since that time, I have had request to post the photographs on ALR again.  Below are the photo's of the rifle:

I noticed your rear barrel lug and rear sight are in the same location. Does anyone see issues with these dovetails being in alignment on opposite sides of the barrel? Or is the barrel lug soldered and not dovetailed?

I followed the locations of the sight and under lug of the original, and proofed the barrel with no issues. I have attached a photo of the original for reference.

Are the dovetails already cut on the barrel when received?

You will have to ask Don about the details.  I had to cut all the dovetails when I assembled the rifle.  I made the rear sight and the dovetail was unique to that sight.

Roger:  thanks for posting these images.  You've built a very nice early Hawken rifle.  I like it a lot.

I think Roger did a great job on the rifle.
To answer Franks question, I do not cut any dovetails on any of my part sets
