I went another way I took some of my carbon arrow shafts( the stiffer the better) and covered them with aluminon arrows(in this case camo  2117 xx75) and made hunting rods. I have  custom muzzle loaders with tapered wood rods (N McKenzie 44 inch .50 1/4-3/8s) and found my  home made rod fit   tapered  ;D and have now have a full length and a take down(2 section) rods. that way I can keep the original rod for show and a very strong rod(s) for hunting ! my range rods steal with muzzle guards.
