Well, here it is. This gun has a 45 1/2" Getz .40 cal. I built it for my Father for all the things he has done for me over the years and the inspiration he has given me to build longrifles. If not for him, this gun would not even exist. Many thanks to all who have helped me with this project - especially Ken Guy aka Packdog. The daily emails back and forth were a pain in the a** for him I'm sure. He is a true gentleman and an excellent teacher.
He was the first to see these pictures and told me to post them for everyone to see. Hope everyone likes it and it is good enough to warrant a few comments. Please let me know if I missed any details or if there is something I can improve on for the next one. I made all the hardware for this except the But Plate, Trigger Guard, Barrel, and Lock. I did modify the Chambers lock some however.

I do apologize in advance for the poor picture taking- some are a little blurry and my foot got in the way too!!!!!!

You are one A+++ student of Ken. Your Dad will love that riflegun. You should be super proud. Only question I have is what's the finish, and how many coats. The only negative is that it looks too good to be an East Tennessee rifle, it has that just left the riflesmiths shop, as opposed to the 100 year old, dragged over mountain, and valley look.

Ken taught you well, and you prospered from the instruction.

I personally do not obsess over Tennessee rifles, but you did a great job, fit and finish, end to end, as I see it. I especially like the stain and how the curl pops. The iron looks neat and natural, it all came together nicely. Your dad is tickled pink, I'll bet. And the pictures and their composition are in no need of apology. Thanks for sharing with us.

Veeery nice and I love those iron mtd rifles..... Bring her on down to Bowmanstown this Sunday and show her off.... Bring the log gun also, since we shoot chunk also.

I will bring her this weekend. I won't let Dad shoot it yet till after Dixon's! I will have it there too if anyone wants to see it. We will be bringing the chunk too and try and beat you this time!!!

Bill, the finish is nitric acid and a homemade stain my Father taught me how to make and a hand rubbed linseed oil/tongue oil mixed finish for the top coats. Alot of work but worth it in the end

Rich, you've done very well! If anything, the finish is perhaps a little too nice for a Tennessee rifle, but I like the fresh out of the shop look. I really like it. The Aqua fortis and finish really compliment a nice stick. I can see by the highlights that you have shaped the stock very well indeed. You should be extremely pleased and i see you dad is too.

Thanks, but not as nice as your over the comb tang. Maybe when I get a chance to build myself one I will try to tackle that incredible task.

I agree with what everyone else said, but I have to add that I especially like the triggers and the trigger guard.. Are there any secrets to forging a guard like that?

That is a beautiful rifle. The Tennessee is my personal favorite style long rifle. Your father has a rifle to be very proud of. Thanks for sharing the photos.

Thank-you for all the wonderful comments! This is only the second Tennessee I have built, According to all the comments I guess I got it right.

There will be better pictures on my web site in a few weeks and I will be showing it off at Dixon's to all who want to see it. Our table is up on the hill across from Allan Sandy and next to Calvin Tanner. See you all in less than TWO WEEKS!!!!!!!

Don't know how I have missed this post for 3 days but I am glad I finally stumbled on it. Very nice job and the stain and finish looks great and will look better with use.

I must say this rifle really catches my eye. Kinda what I want to do for my hunting rifle. Steel furniture looks classy somehow without the flash.

Well done. BTW did you antique the furniture somehow?

Yes I did. Just over browned it and rubbed it back to show some bare steel with light pits to kinda simulate wear.
