Cased pistols on the contempory Blog today.

In the first Picture today, there is a pair of great looking pistols. Looks like they are swivelbarreled. Does anybody have more Pictures of the set?? If so, please post them.

Tim, the pistols are in the first and second pictures on the first link you posted, right under the big blue sign that say”Wonderful World of Smoothbores”. The second picture is better, blow it up and they sure look like swivel barrels to me, too.

The ramrods are mouted on the side of the barrell. Thats why I think they are swivels.

Rolf, I don't think that is a swivel gun because the mainspring is outside and is forward of where the swivel portion would occur.  Here's a link to Hallowell's site - there is an over/under pistol by Joseph Egg that has the same outside mainspring.  There are 11 photos of the pistol with many showing fine details of the pistol.  http://www.hallowellco.com/joseph_egg%20O-U%20Flintlock.htm

I agree they are not swivels.  The lockplate extends across where they would swivel.

When I posted the photo of the Joseph Egg pistol I should had said it was one of a pair (circa 1820, .57 cal smooth x 6-1/2" barrels).  Also, there is only one trigger, but the locks fire sequentially - that's really neat.  So after you've emptied the 4 barrels at an assailant there's still an ornate  skull cracker built into each butt -
 
I'm guessing that "jolly ole England" still had plenty of Rough Times back then.
