Daughters first gunsmith job

My daughter of 14 decided she wanted to build a rifle for herself and it has been a most of the year project for her. Has a commercial lock and barrel and everything else was fabricated and poured buttplate and trigger guard. Started from a blank.  Still need to do all the little details of stock shaping and get a patchbox made but she wants to take a break and shoot it and sight it in. Maybe later today if the wind quits. I helped along the way be she did more than half the work.

My wife says you have a nice looking young lady for a daughter, and it looks like she dose fine work. I say that when the boys ask her out, she can all ways turn them down by saying no I have rifle to build.  :)

Steven V, yes we hunt. She has others she can use but is pushing to use this one this year. Still a lot to do with finishing the stock shaping and getting a Patchbox made and all the carving and engraving. She may use it in the white because I doubt all the finishing gets done before then, can finish it all over the winter.

Had a buddy back in Va. that got one to that point, sighted it in and hunted with it. It shot so well he was afraid to take it apart or finish it. After awhile it took on its own finish mostly on the cheek piece and forearm. RIP Bear Claw.
 Well done Mark, you should be proud of her and her interest, hope to see more.

Ditto what all have said. My 40 yo daughter loves to shoot her rifle when we can get togather. From one dad to another, good job raising your children. Dave F 8) 8)

That plan works. I hunted with my deer rifle before it was all done up and fully shaped and finished.  Fantastic on hers and your accomplishments.

Outstanding! My 9 year old daughter has started hanging around me as I tinker at the work bench. I look forward to the day she wants to dive in and build a rifle as your daughter has. Proud moment for any father!

I can say from personal experience and close observation that Mark Brier and
his wife and kids are descendants from a quality family.Tom and Helen Dawson
would be more than proud of them if they were still here and I wish they were.
