I agree with the fine advise you have been given so far. If The "Muskrat" owned that fine working rifle I would lightly sand the edges of the chip, apply some Linseed oil and finish with a light wax. Working rifles get nicks and dents over time. You will be in the shop anyway shortening that too long of a ramrod anyway so there you have it.

Mike, RR has been shortened.....think that's how it got chipped in the first place.
