« on: July 14, 2009, 06:06:43 PM »
Any crony experts out there????????????

Got my hands on some old dupont 3 f powder (w/o the org cans!! ::))

Question is: Is there much difference if any in velocity between the 2?

I intend to use it and need to know.

Maybe I should simply keep it seperate for 25 yd use????

Anybody???

Never put it on the chrono, but I acquired the best part of a mixed case of one-pound cans of DuPont dating back to 1973.  Both 2f and 3f seem completely interchangeable with contemporary Goex, both in terms of POI and accuracy out to 75 yards.  If I'd noticed any difference I certainly would have pulled out my chrono, but empirically speaking anyway, there's no difference.

Although I have some Dupont I haven't shot any of it for some time. I don't recall any big difference with Goex.

You mention old cans. Are they the old oval ones? If so they are worth more than the powder.

Dupont and GOI/Goex was, until Goex moved, all made in the same plant with the same formula.

now that tell how long its been for me that's what i remember getting BP in as a kid the guy we bought it from charged 5$ a pound and gave us a 1$ return for all the empty cans we brought in we would go around at reenactments we attended and gather the empties that the others didn't want and trade it back in for full cans ;D.
got more $ for the powder cans then soda cans 1$ verses 10cents ;)

How times have changed.  When I got into muzzleloaders I was still a teenager.  A can of Dupont was one dollar.  Yep, $1.  And that was one can at full retail.  You could buy it at any gun store, hardware store and even some drug stores.  Most folks use to buy their guns at hardware stores, too.  Sometimes they WERE the good ol' days!
