Brooks College of Knowledge project completed!
« on: November 17, 2019, 10:21:28 PM »
This is a project that I took to Mike Brooks this summer to learn carving. It’s based on some of the guns in RCA volume I focused on the Reading School. I have to give a shout out to another fellow (Randall Cantrall) for his assistance with the stock finish. I stocked this around an FCI 7/8” .45 x 42” barrel. Chambers deluxe Siler lock, Brooks brass mounts. Will take her out on first date on Wednesday.

I like it.  The tang carving in particular turned out really nice.

I've got to quote Jed Clampett, "WEEEEEEE DOGGIE".  That sure is pretty.  You did yourself proud Wayne.  There is so much to like there.  Great carving and finishing.  God Bless,   Marc

Beautiful gun Wayne.  I really like the carving.  Looks like you’re getting good with the parting tool.  It creates the best looking carvings in my opinion.

Fantastic job! I especially like the simplistic design! Sometimes less is more, I will be doing a similar project in Ron Scott's class in January up in Oregon. I like crossed tomahawks and arrows! I have some ideas there and hope to learn enough to do all the carving and engraving myself in Ron's class. More pictures of carving and muzzle if you can.

Overall very nicely done Wayne. Like Jim, I see the excellent work around the tang leaping out as unique and very well executed.
What did you do to the Brooks Brass to get that finish on it..??
Thanks for sharing.

Hello Tony good to see you posting. I've already had an early look at pictures of Stoner's recent rifle and it is a dandy. He improves with each new rifle. I think a three day stint at Brooks' gunsmith college helped immensely.  Looking forward to seeing the next one out of his shop. Tim
