Leather Trimmed Haversack
« on: December 07, 2019, 04:57:00 AM »
Had the day off, so I finally finished the leather trim on a haversack of mine.  I also trimmed the inside edge, and added a leather reinforcement piece to the back of the bag between the straps to help it hang better.  The trim was goatskin I dyed brown, and then applied some bees wax sealer concoction to it all.  Canvas bag and woven strap got walnut hull dyed.

Stitching seems to be slow tedious work for me, but as Mark Baker said on one of his DVDs, “You can’t get in a hurry when your making something 18th Century”.   Seems to be true for me!

You should be proud. Some things just can't be and shouldn't be rushed. That is one fine bag.

That’s a neat looking job, well done!  I need to do the same sort of thing to mine (plain white canvas from Townsend’s).

It'll function in the field with a lot more durability that way.  Nice work.

Thanks.  Although i think it looks better with the leather trim, i mostly added it for functionality over the long haul.

I really like the feel of this bag.  The dye you used sure gives it a original look.  Very nicely done.  God Bless,   Marc
