Hi Greg,
I think that button came from Colonial Williamsburg. I like to haunt the shops (pewter shop, Tarpleys, silversmith, millinery, etc.) and stores there in search of anything I might be able to use. If not Williamsburg, it might have come from Camden last month.
Once the new buttons go into the "button bag", it is hard for me to recall where I got a particular one. The buckles are a bit easier to place. I have a few beautiful domed pewter ones from Mitch Yates that I am itching to use.
I think a "Join or Die" snake item will be next. Great image.
Thank you for the kind comments folks.
James, I agree about the thin Pigskin, that's why I lined it in suede cowhide to provide body. Feels better when you stick your hand in too. The top back stiffener keeps the top more rigid so the "hinge" operates better, and it provides more anchor for the strap stitching. Easy to do, and hopefully allows the bag to live longer.
God Bless, Marc
