This is the latest project to emerge from the inner sanctum of my shop. It is a 12 gauge composite fowler with hand forged mounts and English walnut stock.

Looks like good times ahead with a smoothbore like that. I'm curious, how is the front of the triggerguard anchored? I enlarged the photo but can't quite tell.

Kevin- the forward end of the trigger guard is mortised into the stock.I copied the idea from a gun built by Ken Gahagen.
FALout-to me,composite means a gun made from random or handmade parts.

‘Composite’ means it’s not strictly based on a particular school.

Very nice smoothie! Coulda fooled me on the walnut! With that much stripe it looks like curly maple.

No choke on the barrel.The finish is a mixture of True Oil,boiled linseed oil & turpentine.The first couple of coats,the wood really soaks the stuff in.I let it set for a couple of hours & then rub it back.I continue the process until the the desired finish is achieved.It is NOT a quick finish to apply.I don't really keep track,but probably 30+ coats.I use the same process on maple except I add a SMALL amount of stain to the mixture.The ratio is APPROXIMATELY equal parts True Oil & BLO with a dribble of turpentine.

Thanks for all the kind words.It's nice to get some positive reinforcements on our endeavors.The wood surprised me. I knew it was a fairly good piece,but it just kept getting better as it was worked. Sometimes a guy gets lucky.
