3 patch box Bean rifle completed - My 2nd plank build
« on: December 31, 2019, 02:22:47 AM »
Here’s my try at the 3 patch box Bean rifle.  This has a 44” swamped A weight Rice barrrel with Bob Roller modified triggers.  The buttplate and trigger guard were forged by Chris Walker.   It has close to a 14” pull and about 3/16” offset Stoner Creek walnut stock.  I poured my first pewter  nose cap, pounded out steel patch boxes and made the hinges.  The side plate is made from a 1 oz silver bar and the front sight from a silver eagle with a copper base.   I wanted to incorporate everything I could in this SMR for experience. Looks like I have two screws on the double patchbox to finish. :o

Thanks to way way too many to mention on here.  I know I’ll forget some and I apologize ahead of time.  Mike Brooks, Chris Walker, Stoner Creek, David Rase, Cade’s Cove Fiddler, Taylor, Brian Barker, Ian Pratt, Bob Roller were all a big help in this rifle and I sincerely appreciate your advice.

Dang Mike.  Mighty handsome.  Can you bring it to Boonesborough so I can play with it?

Mike, can you explain,  in detail, what an smr is?  Inquiring minds want to know.

Beautiful rifle! Well Done! As for the Crocs, not so much. I could never get past the ugly.  I have designated my property as a Croc free zone ;D

Mine really is too. My old man has a pair for outside and a pair for in the house. He loves them. He got me a pair for Christmas and I made the mistake of wearing them to feed the hogs. Big mistake. They were forthwith banned from the house and the dog took them over as chew toys...

Thanks for all the compliments.  The crocs were avoided for many years because they are ugly.  One of the kids got them for me and after wearing them,  I like them.  I’ve walked quite a few miles in them without discomfort.  I’m to the point where comfort outweighs about everything.

Chris did a great job on his forgings,... you do build a fine rifle, Mike,... BTW,... nothing SMR about her,... she's all TENNESSEE,... !!! ... well done,.....CCF..

Very nicely done Mike. Your final finish on the wood really compliments, and goes well with the metal. Is that an inlay I see in one picture, on the barrel top flat? Yet to be engraved?
