Can you identify this lock

Friend of mine sent me this pik of an old lock it's got a GR stamped on it along with WER he's curious
As to what it is any info appreciated

Looks like one of the later Bess type locks, or of or near that pattern.

 Smaller versions of this lock were seen on sea service pistols, and may have been sold as surplus later on. I have seen a couple of longrifles with small tower marked locks.
