I’m pretty sure there was an article in Muzzleloader in the past 2-3 years on making one.

I've also seen this design style used much for English sportsmen circa 1690-1710

Should be easy to make a simple version without the spring loaded charger...I’m thinking wood end plugs, and a turned spout, with a simple fiddle peg stopper. Some brass or iron eye screws, and a braided cord or leather thong for carrying.  Or, cabbage the head from a flask and use that...

There was a Muzzleloader article on them for sure.
It was in the May/June 2016 issue about making
A Pulverhorn.
 
I started with brass castings from the Rifle Shoppe.
These flasks were commonly used by French and Spanish
Soldiers here in North America

And yes, home made versions can be crafted with out
Brass fittings too. Here is a version I cooked up awhile

Were they primarily powder horns for loading or priming horns? I guess thy could be used for either based on the size you made them. Just curious to their original historical use.

Mike, probably used for both until the common horn as we know it displaced it.

James, thank you for the information about their English usage. Until now I thought they were mostly a French thing.

T.C., thanks for reminding me about your article. I dug out that issue and sure enough you covered it quite well. What type of cord did you use on that nice home spun version you picture.

I believe the cord is used for
Upholstery piping. Made of
A woven jute. Comes off
A little roll at the local hobby shop.

Funny the timing of this post.  Thanks James for the pics.

I am not sure that these are HC in every detail, but I made them out of flattened horn discards to lighten my load on trail walks.  they hand from a button on my weskit.  On the left is for my Little Feller at 20 rounds of .50 cal and on the right for my .56 at twenty rounds. The wooden spout is sunk into one of those wooded bullet bag spouts that I altered so I could pull the plug to fill  and use the little plug to load.  The one with the bone spout will fill and load with the same spout.
