Interesting gun. Anybody know if this is rifled or smooth? what caliber? Chuck has really been branching out and trying some different styles. Doing them quite well too in my opinion.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Mike -- I'm sure that coming from a builder as good as yourself Chuck would take that as quite a compliment.

He has actually built a number of guns in that style with the fowler hardware and "smooth rifle" type look, but I don't know about this particular one.  I know his most typical builds are 50's or 54's and most are rifled, but he has built some with straight rifling etc too.

Chuck's website used to have a link to a photobucket site with hundreds of photos of his rifles he has built, but I can't get to most of the photos anymore.  I think there are still maybe 20-30 photos.

He does a nice job - his guns have a distinctive look.

Mike,

This is a rifle that Chuck built in 2004.  It's got a 47" Getz swamped .50 cal. barrel, and is rifled.  It's built with a hand forged fowler buttplate and triggerguard.  13 1/2" trigger pull and it swings like a fowler.  It is lightly antiqued, which I happen to like.  I'll send you some better pictures which you can post if you want to.
