Let there be bone
« on: January 28, 2020, 02:42:09 AM »
Gearing up for the upcoming Lewisburg and Lake Cumberland show with some trade knife inspired bone handles knives. Many handle designs from dug originals at native sites in Pennsylvania.  Hand forged from 01 tool steel.

Excellent work. I really love the 2nd and 3rd ones in the individual pictures.
Really wish I could go to that show.
Where do you get the bone pieces big/thick enough for such work?

Just lovely work. Especially that pistol gripped one. I took a photo of the remains of its twin. Dug at the Yorktown battlefield.  I have wanted one every since I saw that artifact.  My apologies for the poor quality photo through glass. God bless, Marc

Wow, those are nice! What type of bone do you use and what method do you use to make the designs in the handles?

They look even better in person, believe me.  I don't know how he finds the time.

And, little known fact (at least it was to me), his leatherwork is incredible also.  He's got some spectacular sheaths - stuff you will marvel at.  I was definitely marveling - it's quite humbling!

Probably, I would guess, his true passion is leather working, right Ken?   ;D ;D ;D

Thanks everyone. I had a good time making these. Nice change of pace from the guns, much quicker return on investment of time. Got on a roll and they kept coming. Great seeing many of you at the show. Especially appreciate Eric for coming down off the mountain and stopping by for a visit. Enjoyed that immensely. Leather work and  sharpening knives are not my favorite task and always put off till the last minute when I have to do them all at once.

Joe McGee took all these pictures for me when we were at Canters Cave and I appreciate his efforts for doing such a great job on them.
