3/4 Stock Rifle
« on: January 30, 2020, 06:26:38 PM »
I’m not what you would call a professional gun stocker but a year ago I was asked to build a 3/4 stock Southern gun. Admittedly I wasn’t really familiar with the style outside the fact that all of the existing examples appear to come from the North Carolina, Southwest Virginia, and Tennessee area. I got a big boost from my friend Dana Ballenger who supplied me with pictures. The customer asked me to deliver finished everything but the stock stain and finish. I’m glad that he did that part because the color turned out quite well. This was an interesting and fun project but I think that I’m going to stick with full stock guns from now on. Enjoy.

;) ;)... looked good before finish, looks better after,... !!! ... you did a great job on this one,.. profile, size and look were spot-on,... I could tell the owner was well pleased, and his finish brings out the look of a proper Southern rifle,... CCF.....

What a difference a bit of cleanup, some stain and oil makes.  Nice job on carding back all the rust that was on it in Alabama.  Over all that gun turned out very nice.

I T Totally love the finish on the barrel and the stock.  The go hand in hand to compliment one another.  Keep up the fantastic work.
Best Wishes to all

Nice! That bulb at the rod entry would feel very nice in hand when shooting.

I’m rather partial to those 3/4 stock rifles. Haven’t seen very many. Beautiful work! Glad you accepted the project. Thanks for sharing the results. I’m going to have to work hard to do half as well!

Respectfully,
Paul

I’m working on a Ohio style 1/2 stock rifle now.  Once I got to a certain point, I have found it hard to hold the rifle with my current working situation and with the barreled pulled out, the stock is very short.

That rifle looks really good, has great style.

Looks great Wayne.  It sure keeps things interesting when someone asks for something a little different.
