Set triggers marked N Wendell, lancaster, oh
« on: January 31, 2020, 12:11:31 AM »
I have a set trigger marked as such, and wonder a bit about the maker. These appear to be about 70's vintage. Pics possible if need. Thanks, Dave F 8) 8)

The Log Cabin shop in Lodi,Ohio may be able to help. I think they used to sell them.

MM70,
We are OK as far as I know now.
The Dean Mitton locks were from
the 1970's I THINK. I know Russ
Hamm was making them in the late 60's.
The parts for those were owned at
one time by International Arms Co.
It was really an agent for a foundry that
produced a variety of locks and parts for
muzzle loaders and later owned by Jerry
Devaudreuil who is now,as far as I can
find out into some form of dementia.
I bought a lot of things from him during my lockmaking
years and now nothing seems to be available if
repairs are needed such as a frizzen replacement
or a cock for the Shoults lock.

Bob, did Len Meadows ever use these parts ,and Bill Large barrel
on his builds? I planning a build on the style of the Meadows rifle shown in the thread Art of Leonard Meadows.
Got a blank of cm of that day that look like it was cut from the same board. Barrel is Uncle Bills 3/4 x 32 x 42inch.
What do you think? Thanks Dave

An old friend and gunmaker, Jack Rouse used Wendell triggers on his iron mounted rifles back in the 70s.  At some point, I'm guessing early 80's he had to switch over to Davis triggers because he could no longer get the Wendell's.  I presume they were no longer being made then.

Norm Wendell was a blacksmith and made triggers and various other parts. Not a big time operation but did a nice job on whatever he made. I have a short length of chain that he hammer forged in a demonstration. I may be wrong but I think he passed away some time ago.

MM70,
Len Meadows did use Bill Large barrels and I know he used my locks but
am not sure about the Russ Hamm/Dean Mitton locks. He also used Siler
locks if the style of gun called for one.I may have made some for him on
the Hamm Maslin external parts.I made a lot of them over the years as
well as the Chet Shoults lock.It was a Ketland and while not a really good
looking one it did perform as required.
As a word of caution I will say that Mitton's locks were not a quality lock
and I saw a boot box full of returned locks he made years ago at the Log
Cabin Shop in Lodi,Ohio.I would never say this if I hadn't seen them myself.
