12-28 threaded cleaning jags etc. needed
« on: February 02, 2020, 02:52:00 AM »
I am getting a Harpers Ferry 1803 kit and found the ramrod male tip is threaded 12-28.  I need to find some jags etc.. (female) that fit that tip.  Does anyone know who might produce/sell them?

-----or buy the right size jag for the bore and remove the 8x32 screw and re-tap it for 12x28

The 12x24 or 12x28 are NOT common hardware store taps or dies but
are easy to get from nearly any industrial supply business. I have both
and other odd ones as well.

The 12/28 should be able to be cleaned up perfectly with a 10/32 die.  You might have to file the threads down just a bit so they will fit into the 10/32 die.

Thanks for the information.  Re-threading to 10-32 would probably be the best.

Consulting my own feeble mind and memory, the 10x32 is a .187 diameter and the 12x28 is a .206.
I made #12's when I was making double set triggers for rolling blocks in the 1990's.

I did what Daryl suggested and filed down the threads a little, then I re-threaded it to 10-32.  Worked out great.  Thanks again.
