Tennessee Re-do
« on: July 25, 2009, 09:37:04 PM »
I built this rifle a number of years ago and was never pleased with the way it came out.  It was one of my early builds and (hopefully) I've learned a few things since.  Anyway, I just completed a re-do which included refitting the buttplate, adding a bone toe plate, pouring a pewter nose cap and overall slimming and slight reshaping.  Also replaced the cast Bean trigger guard with a real handforged guard I picked up.  "Staining" is aqua fortis heated very dark and rubbed back to bring out the contrast.  The curl really pops now, much more than before.  Finish is BLO/Japan Drier.

Some mistakes couldn't be totally corrected, but I'm much happier now than with the old version.

She turned out real good.  The overall appeal is great.  I've went back and refinished a couple of mine and have been surprised at how much more wood I remove.  Thanks for posting the pics.  A fine looking shooting rifle I'm sure.

Very nicely done- great lines!  The pewter nose cap is perfect for that rifle!  Wish I had that kind of patience and skill.
