A Different Barrel

Here is a neat find. Snaphance, or Wheel Lock barrel? I just don't exactly know. Measures 58 1/2" overall, 1" diameter, about .58 cal. Cast iron, I think, with some ornate features along the length, & several silver rings at different intervals. I also have three extra silver rings that were loose around the barrel. Not sure where they would go. Looking for any input, as to origin or history. Also have the original ramrod. Thanks, Jim.

I think you are right-matchlock. Not quite as early as I thought, Jim.

My first guess is Indonesian or Indian from the 18th or early 19th centuries.

This one is cast correct? How early were they casting stuff like this in Indonesia? Matchlocks lasted for ever in that area......this could even be a barrel for the tourist trade and be VERY late.

I don't think the OP is sure about being cast.  My first impression is that it is not cast but I cannot really tell from the photos.

Ah. All of these I have seen the design appeared to be cut in with a chisel. Labor must have been cheap in that area of the world. of course the quality of the chiseling is never high grade,. I have never seen one of these I'd voluntarily fire with out Hoyt putting in a liner first. I have seen higher grades in pictures used by noted English gumakers.
