Drawing on a pattern
« on: February 16, 2020, 11:13:56 PM »
I’ve only built two guns from a plank but I’ve copied the buttstock pattern on the side plate side on both.  Is there any advantages to copying it from the lock side?  I haven’t ran into any problems but I’m always open to learning new things.

If there is a high cheekpiece, that could be a problem. As long as you leave a little wiggle room on the profile, I don't see a problem or disadvantage from copying from a particular side. If you copy with lockside down, it would be helpful to take the lock out, if the owner doesn't mind. As long as the lock you're using has similar geometry to the original, the layout should be pretty straighforward.
