Sling for Timber Rattler
« on: February 13, 2020, 10:10:00 PM »
Thought I would share some pictures of the sling Jeanne McDonald made for the North Carolina  rifle I own made by Joe Schell. I nicknamed the rifle the Timber Rattler shortly after receiving it from Joe. I have taken hogs and deer with the .54 cal. rifle. Fortunately 99% of the time it goes off before I can flinch. I furnished a tanned snake skin Jeanne did the rest. The snake was killed by a friend of mine after he was almost bitten by it. Legal to do in Alabama.

Snake skin can make beautiful slings, hat bands and belts.  Super nice!

My favorite saying regarding snakes is: "the only good snake is a belt". I now will add or a sling.

Good looking snake sling. Did you get a buck this year?

Thanks for the kind comments regarding the sling.  It suits the rifle just fine. Brian I did not kill a buck this year.  Should have tried for a smaller one early in the season
I held out for a big one. Didn't work out. Always next year and hogs are up next. May just have to eat pork.

That looks great! I've skinned a few snakes but didn't know how to tan 'em. Borax and nailed to a board, they fell apart after a while.

I'd expect nothing less from Jeanne.  She does great leather work.
