I really don't know but I am guessing contempoary based on the appearance of the wood where not distressed/heavy patina. I think Rev War period wood would look much older than this does in many areas. Again just my guess.

I read the article. It is written by Eric and he's describing an old gun that came down in the Ryckman family. At least that's how I understood it.

If this is a contemporary rifle (even if using antique parts) it would be one of the most amazing rifles ever. The moved rear sight, the very close to the muzzle front sight, fore stock brass repair, chunks of wood missing all add up to an old rifle to me. If this truly is a new build I want to shake the builders hand.

After seeing that fabulous work of art, I think I'll put my rifle back on the chicken house floor for another 6 months and see if that does the trick

Kidding aside, that rifle represents what I imagine to be a staggering amount of work and skill. Dedication to studying originals and the nuances of age and wear are wonderfully evident, and the back ground story is perfect !
