the critique sheet was very extensive but some of the things which they dinged me on was the "overall presentation would be better with less egg shaped raw horn" Round is better through out the horn. The base plug was not at a 90 degree angel with the base of the horn ( it had a slight angle to it) the Central theme between the bird and heart needed contrasts provided by shading lines etc. Staples are too bold/heavy. On the spout the rings and grooves need cleaned up. Base needs finish refinement and off center (the off center was very, very small but still off center)
Don't get me wrong here there was a lot of good comments but I really walked away with a lot of information and since this was my first time entering anything at Dixon's I learned a lot and hopefully will come away with something next year. What surprised me was they didn't give a ribbon out to the category of horns in the Junior or Plane category. None at all. They felt there were to many issues to give a ribbon. That surprised me! Especially in the Junior category with kids upto 16 years were allowed to enter.
What I did like was they spoke about every category and described why they picked a certain piece for a ribbon. That didn't happen with the rifle's that were entered. They just called a number on the tag and gave the ribbon for that category. Kinda bored me a little. I said something to Chuck about it and he said he would look at it.
