Taylor, I also like H. Rupps work, and think of it as the epitome/acme of period long rifles.  You have done exceptional work, and even old Herman would enjoy what you have accomplished.

A very minor question - does Lady Liberty really have a goatee?  LOL!

Craig:  I'll take the bait.  Herman used shading cuts under her chin, and I'd have done the same.

Tom:  "in my prime"  would be a good time to work on some builds for my own enjoyment and use.  I agree with you though that my skill has improved, as I think it should, and I attribute that to this web site.  There are so many great builders here who continuously raise the bar and inadvertently demand better work from all of us who accept the challenge.  Some of that comes from extremely fine execution and some from better tools and components.  BALR (before ALR) I was living in a muzzleloading rifle desert island without peer stimulation.  My friend Cody Tetachuck from Alberta was the ONLY other builder here in Western Canada, and we saw each other only every few years, but when we did get together, we exchanged ideas big time...I miss that as life seems to have taken care of his time.
And I will return to Dixon's Fayre and the show in Lexington one of these years.  In the mean time, I have lots to do.

Beautifully done Taylor. I really like that you used the muzzle cap with the finials on the side. Other than Rupp I haven't seen it used very much, but I find that little extra a very appealing feature.

Taylor, I shall remember that.  You have a lot to emulate in your work, and I can only hope to do even half as good in my work.

Looks pretty good on that old goat hide, Taylor. Well done!
Guys - guess who gets to shoot it tomorrow?
Got 2 to shoot, actually - a switch barrel Penn. fowler as well.
I'll leave my stuff at home.

Super result from great effort!

Did I get it right that the stock wood is maple from BC = British Columbia? If so would that be the Big Leaf Maple species?
I looks great! Thanks for sharing the pictures. :D

All I can add is Wow. I am continually amazed by the talent and artistry exhibited by members of this board. You definitely knocked this one out of the park. It amazes me how you can build to this level of authenticity being so far away from any contact with original pieces. Looking forward to your next visit to Dixon’s. BJH

I love everything about it.
Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.

Yes, it is BC broadleaf maple.  A lot of this species, grown in the river bottoms and valleys is worthless for stock making, but the stuff harvested off the mountains of the lower mainland struggles to grow, and is both hard and dense, and highly figured.  Even so, I think I'd compare it to Red Maple for work-ability.  Sugar maple takes carving better too.  But I've built a lot of rifles and pistols using this wood with some success.
Again, thanks for your great support, all.

That is truly a master crafted firearm in every sense of the work. The engraving on the silver really pops. Your technique is flawless.

Taylor, I just went through all the pictures again. I clicked on the resolution button and enlarged them again.
Beautiful work, Bro. This rifle should bring a tear to Brian's eyes. Did for me when considering what this rifle
means.

This LR displays your skill of building Mlers that are "works of art" which most builders can only hope to achieve. Perhaps "retirement" is  only temporary  and we'll be treated to many more of your builds?....Fred

Fred:  and everyone, thanks for your comments.  I shall continue to build as long as I am physically able.  I'm just not taking on anymore consignment builds.

Daryl and I test fired and sighted in both the Chambers' PA fowler/rifle and Brian's Rupp rifle yesterday.  Brilliant sunshine, -10 C and a gentle but bitter wind.  Charge was 72 gr. FFg GOEX because that is the measure that hands on my .50 cal shooting bag.  Both rifles required having front sights filed way down to bring the group up to the 6 o'clock spot where we stopped.  Final sighting will be in the presence of the owners.  But suffice it to say, we were happy with the way they both shot...ragged hole at 50 m.  Lots of fun.

Taylor, You are truly a Master of the craft. Brian has been teasing that it was coming and it is well worth the wait. Your skills and abilities are to be envied. I could continue but a -10 C you need to be able to keep your hat on  :)

It was chilly, but fun just the same - particularly because Taylor did all the loading and side from him shooting the first shots out of each gun, I did all the shooting.
Fun indeed. Oh yes - he got to clean them too. ;D

Fine work for a "retired guy" Taylor!  Very nice - can't wait to see what you come up with to build for yourself in the near future.   ;)
