« on: March 13, 2020, 11:03:48 PM »
Here is an nice little English pistol that I found hiding in my safe the other day. It has a 4 1/4 inch barrel and the bore is a 10 gauge, .(774) Ouch on both ends!!!! When I got it the seller said it was unmarked but I can see a few letters close to the frizzen spring, I THINK I know the maker,. What do you see?,,, Ed,,,

Very cool! Quite a handful. I think I'd use it with buckshot.

Surprisingly good condition.Definetly a good one shot self defense piece.
Neat little lock too.Does it still work?Half cock and full cock still OK?

I think that this could possibly to be an Irish made pistol,or made in Birmingham for the Irish market.It has a lot of typical 'irish' features,  not least the large bore. Known as  a Manstopper. You know what they say 'A little powder,much lead,shoots far,kills dead. 8)

I'll surmise you're thinking the name on the lock plate is 'NOCK' but's that's no guarantee it was made by Henry Nock. His name was frequently plagiarised to add a bit of polish to generic pistols like this one.
Maybe you have other ideas???? hard to read from the photos.

I have no input on the origins.  I will say it appears to be something Steve McQueen would have carried if he was alive when this pistol was made.  Just plain cool.   8)

Looking again and putting two and two together I'm starting to see TRULOCK, a fairly prolific Dublin  gunmaker. Still just a guess but maybe if you rubbed it you might get a clearer idea.

Are there any visible proof marks on the barrel,I can't see any....unless they're underneath??

This one's a bit earlier c.1800 but the same idea;

Very nice. I love these overcoat pistols.  I'm planning on building a 5" in .62 smoothbore. Figuring out the trigger position to have enough room for me to grip the stock is tricky. I'm using a John Bailes lock

Bob Roller. the lock works fine but I have to knap tiny flits for it!

Naill. I think you have something there , it sure could be "TRULOCK". The only marks on the bottom of the barrel are "JM"

Ed.

That'll be John Murphy, 190 Great Britain Street 1808-1835, a Dublin Barrel maker.  ;)
