Bag #25 - Belt Bag - Lang Inspired
« on: March 16, 2020, 03:11:35 AM »
Hi Folks,

I saw online a picture of Darrel Lang's gorgeous version of the Lyman Belt Bag.  I decide to try my hand at one, and vary things a tiny bit.  Thank you for the inspiration Darrel.

This is 3-4 ounce cowhide, with a rolled buckskin front opening padding.  The belt loops are made as one piece, with an opening in the center so the bag can easier conform to the curved belt.  It will hold a 2" wide belt.  Stitched with 3-ply waxed linen from Lima Beads.  There is a cowhide, full height divider inside to give two "pockets" or sections.  The button came from Williamsburg I think.  It is about 5" x 7".

God Bless,  Marc

Thank you guys.  I have found that small items like belt bags and sheaths are fussier to make as the tiny details all show more in proportion.  There is as much stitching in this bag as some of my larger ones.  God Bless,   Marc

I was thinking it would hide a cell phone and credit cards at a reenactment.  ;-)

That, as well as a fire kit and flint wallet, which is what I plan to do with mine...yes, time to jump on the Lyman wagon!

The Lyman bag seems 5p be the "in thing," to recreate right now. This one is my favorite so far. The shape and dimensions seem perfect. Very nicely done.

Amazing work!  The contrasted stitching really sets it off.
