I've been contemplating building a Kibler Colonial for a first kit build (while I'm stuck at home as a teacher). I don't want to be too ambitious for a first build in terms of attempting carving and decoration.

I'm interested in seeing some walnut examples with minimal decoration. I can't find a photo with my primitive google skills. Really all I've found is a gorgeous Walnut version done by Jim himself with amazing carving.

Also, while Kibler offers a no-patchbox option, I'd love to see one without a patchbox. I can't find a photo of that. If anyone has one around, can you post a photo?

Thanks.

Looks like there's one on Jim's website under Colonial rifles finished by customers. It's not wanut stocked, but you'll get an idea of one w/out a patchbox.

Thanks, but unfortunately I can't access the photos without joining the HuntingPA forum. Any chance you could post a photo or two here?

Don't give up on the carving before you even start! Just get some walnut and practice until you get it right. It really is not that hard.

Gorgeous. Thank you.
One more question - most of the customer photos I've seen show an upgrade in Maple. Has anyone built or bought one with no Maple upgrade? I know there's some luck of the draw involved, but I'd love to see a representative example of the basic-level Maple with no upgrade.

Yes, I upgraded every time.  Jim is very generous with his wood grading.  You will not be disappointed.

I didn't order any upgrade on the wood, I was quite pleased with what arrived.

I'll say. Wow. What did you use to finish it?

Jim's original ad for his SMR features a stock carved from plain maple.  Check out his web site.

Art is not an object.  It is the excitement inspired by the object.

All from Jim's site.  His iron nitrate stain and permalyn sealer.
