Hi Folks,

Since everyone is hunkering down with this virus mess, I thought I'd be fun for everyone to show their personal favorite two accoutrement items they've made in the last 12 months.  A fun retrospective as it were.

This doesn't have to be what others think are great, just what YOU think came out well.  A good selection criteria would be if you considered keeping it for yourself when done.  Like Eric Ewing's New Year's Day bag with the hair-on flap. Tim Crosby's snuff box.  Ron's Thomas Simpson horn.  Bob's SC horn.  Anything by James Rogers.....   That sort of thing.

My favorites I've done are "Beard" and "Stitches", shown below...….

Like I said, this is just for fun to take our minds off being stuck at home.

God Bless, and sincere best wishes to all,   Marc

Here's a little penny knife made from an original Joseph Rogers blade and apple handle.

Finished this up and it is for a member who is awaiting delivery of a Lexington KY rifle. The original was made by Thomas Simpson to accompany a rifle he built for Casper Mansker. Flower designs and hearts are also on the rifle engraving. The tip plug screws into the horn which is unusual and the engraving is only on the front and top panel of the horn. The engraving at the band only goes around 2/3 of the horn.

Great idea, Marc, and fine looking “stuff”, guys!  My favorite so far is the game bag I made recently:

And a new bag for my old Virginia rifle.  The horn is about 10 years old, but the strap is new.

Wow! There’s gonna’ be some very nice accoutrements made during this period.

Thanks for sharing y’alls fantastic work .

I’m still piddling around, but will never reach the level of Craftsmanship displayed here.

Here’s a couple of my feeble attempts... they’re functional but that’s about the extent of it.

I'll add this sash woven by Louise Hess to the mix.  It's 1-3/4" wide.  I love the contrasting but subtle edging thread.  I'll let Louise weigh in on how it was made and dyed.

It's resting on a delightful flat horn by Ron Hess.  :-)

God Bless,   Marc

First one was a horn I drilled through the neck on and tossed away in a box years ago.  I pulled it back out of the box last summer, and was able to shorten it and salvage it with a turned applied tip.  Second is the last horn I completed.

Hawkeye, you got those quilling skills down. Have you thought of attempting some of the eastern woodlands style quilling?

Hey Top Jaw, we should put your snake "Join or Die" horn with my snake "Join or Die" bag.  We'd have snake buildup.   Hah!   :-)

Seriously, that is some fine engraving on that horn.  Super nice.

God Bless,  Marc

It seems to be a good blend, and it's fantastic. Maybe I should have been a touch more specific. I'm meaning the Eastern floral style that is seen in much of the Iroquois, Cherokee and even some in the Shawnee stuff. Your horn strap does have some Shawnee styling to it, at least from what I'm able to find on the subject, and I'm no expert by any stretch. I'm still studying the quillin and beading stuff and I am finding vastly differing info about just when beading started to become prevalent. I'm finding dates ranging from 1790s-1830s.

I hate to even post my bag, after that amazing quill work. But here is a double bag I just finished up. I dyed it with vinegaroon, sewed it with waxed linen thread.
