This could go in antique collecting but often folks ask about carving patterns. Here are 2 different mid 1700s Germanic buttstocks nicely carved with very similar designs. Speaks to creative variations on design though the carving behind the cheekpiece is almost identical.
The cheekpieces are also identical. It would be reasonably safe to say the two guns were from the same shop.
Aha! I knew I had seen that before. Thought it looked very Bavarian or Viennese.... Here is a rifle by Christoph Ris in Wien, 1750's
