Nice Germanic carving

This could go in antique collecting but often folks ask about carving patterns. Here are 2 different mid 1700s Germanic buttstocks nicely carved with very similar designs.  Speaks to creative variations on design though the carving behind the cheekpiece is almost identical.

The cheekpieces are also identical.  It would be reasonably safe to say the two guns were from the same shop.

Aha! I knew I had seen that before.  Thought it looked very Bavarian or Viennese....  Here is a rifle by Christoph Ris in Wien, 1750's




  It also has the same non-swiveling solid sling loop.

Here is another. A dealer specializing in European arms told me it was mid 18th Century
from central Germany.

Muchos grassiest. So surprised to see it's a double. be ready to see  this carving on a German single barreled fowling gun.

The pattern on the top two remind me of some patterns on Moravian guns made in America.  Not at all surprising considering their origins.  God Bless,  Marc
