German Game Bag try
« on: March 21, 2020, 05:05:23 AM »
I’m trying my luck at a German game bag.  I’m using T.C.’s example as a reference and his tutorial.  This thing is a whole lot of work but fun.  The thing is massive.  I have quite the ways to go.  I can’t wait to finish it so I can start working on the plank I just got back from David!!   I’m using the dew claws from the buck I shot this year. Feel free to give me any advice.

WOW!!!! Give you advise?! Seems you are right on point. Did you make that awesome net bag yourself too?
If so, care to share where you learned how?
Really looking great.

Mike, that’s absolutely awesome!  Can’t wait to see all the parts assembled!  I KNOW you’re gonna wear that to the CLA this fall...

Try? That's some fine looking work right there.

Brokennock,  I used a spaced out double macrame knot for most of the bag.   It’s not that complicated but it takes a lot of time.

I've got 3 German percussion doubles, any of which would go well with that bag.

I say you have the "do" part going just fine.

Awesome
One element you may wish to add is a small strap under the flap in the inside that supports the shape of the bag by attaching to a button (most likely metal since that is what you have used already, but most German bags have a rolled leather button) on the front of the bag. Almost all German game bags have this element no matter what the size. Often the rolled leather button goes through the game net as well in some manner.

Thank you Mr. Ewing for the advice.  I appreciate it.  I’ll find me a nice leather button for the flap. I’ve been on you blog reading the interview about game bags and taking in the pictures for quite some time.  That is the most useful piece of information I’ve found online for game bags.  I’m very hopeful that I can put this one to use this hunting season.

Thanks again,

Mike

Right on glad it was helpful.  I forgot to mention that sometimes the leather buttons are rolled but often they are also the little monkey paw style.  Either way it looks like you obviously have the skill to make either one if you chose to go that route.

That is a great bag, and you could haul just about anything you want or need.

If you can't make the monkey fist, send me some leather thongs and I will be glad to make a mini-monkey fist for you.
