Final Horn Finish (if any)?
« on: July 31, 2009, 01:11:42 AM »
I just completed horn #7 and my first real attempt at some scrim.    I rit dyed it and antiqued it with a little stain and burnt umber oil paint applied and rubbed off.   It all came out fairly well.   My question is, what do you guys put over a scrimmed & dyed horn to help with the wear and tear (if anything).  This one will be going on my personal bag, so it will get some use over time.  Or has anyone ever re-dyed one later if the white horn started showing through?

TJ,

You can put beeswax on it an polish it back to a shine or any good paste type carnuba wax for automobiles or hardwood floors will be good for a final finish.

I use beeswax or Renaissance Wax.  The Renaissance Wax, you only need to use a very small amount and it polish's up to a nice shine.  If you used a dye on it it might take a little of it off at first.  That's why you use only a little.  It will also clean dirt off the horn years down the road.
