Love it. Many original horns were colored but we don’t see that often represented by contemporary horns. That’s a beaut. How big is it? Trying to scale by the paper towels it seems 12”ish straight across? Is the tip shaded with the green too or is that a trick of the light?

Now if this is the result of being stuck at home, well its some of the best use of time I have seen so far. Very nice.

Gorgeous.

My antique horn I use for my Ohio rifle is a similar shade of dark gree/black, but I believe it to be a natural color from the deeper layers of the horn as it is thin and then powder level can be observed by holding the horn to sunlight.

The horn is about 12". It started as a green horn and dye made it more green in color.  I learned the dying technique from My good friend Billy Griner.  Finish is mixture of bees wax, lindsead and bear oil

Ok. That’s why that looks familiar. Bill Griner does super interesting horns. For any of you who haven’t seen his work I spent quite a bit of time hovering over his table at the Alabama Show.

Here’s the link. He’s a pretty amazing Horner.

If you’ve watched the video already you can forward to 3:30.

Nice work Jim, I can't see to many Banded Horns. Like that wide base band set-up.

Brings a new, better use of the term "Green Horn"!  As I am a big fan of wearing stuff to match the scenery, it makes an ideal camo powder horn.
Thanks for showing, and relating the color process.
