I went outside of my box
« on: April 01, 2020, 04:23:25 AM »
I present the Wuhan Boucanier.

Stocked in American walnut,,
56 inch, .69 caliber barrel  by Larry Horrigan.
R.E. Davis  colonial  lock brass trim,  type d triggerguard. iron  buttplate.
Weighs 9.5 pounds.

This piece is based off a gun in the Maine Historical Society,  and featured  in the" French trade gun in North America " page 52-53

As usual, there are quite a few things I'd do different on the next one. The wood gave me fits at times, and it shows in places.  The grain ran in about three directions,  was hard, soft in others,  very "chippy" in places. There's always a challenge it seems.
I need to tweak a few things, but appearance wise. That's it

Will it kill the virus?

I suspect the muzzle blast from a .69 caliber smoothbore would vaporize a lot of those little virus buggers instantly  ::)

Pretty COOL Boo-Ken-Yay (as Horrigan calls them). Bet you learned a lot building that piece!

Thank you
The whole wrist transition to the semi circles  was a patience tester.,and it happened to be where a lot of the wood grain changed directions.
And I want to do another.

Cool Beans. Some of my Louisianan brothers will appreciate this build. They like these Boucanier's.  ;D

Alex,

What did you use to finish the white metal? It's really a nice Bucannier.

LMF browning solution, no carding. I just let it go wild for a f ew days or so..  Then boiled/blacked.,and rubbed wit a sçotchbrite pad, then oiled unreal good with PBS blaster.

Hey Alex,
Just shows what can happen when people can no longer get together with others to keep them sane.  Who knows what else you might come up with in 9 months....Hang in their friend and perhaps some day we will get together on the range again.
All the best
Ron
