Teen Years Collecting - Shot Bags

Greetings Everyone,

First came into the muzzleloading world, along with my parents, in the mid 1970's leading up to America's Bicentennial.  Couldn't afford to collect the guns but gathered up a bunch of accouterments.  Here's a few shot bags for your viewing pleasure.

I'm glad you enjoy viewing them.  The top one came out of my maternal grandfather's things.

I took the camera down to the basement and photographed a bunch of gun stuff I gathered up over the years.  Figured I'd start posting photos as this group seems to thrive on old stuff.  Maybe a pic will be the inspiration for someone's next project.

Treasures, indeed. I have my grandfather's shaving mirror & had his razor as well, but gave the razor to Taylor.
I tried shaving with a straight razor many years ago, might have been this one and ended up almost needing
stitches to close the wounds.
Doing that with one of my hunting knives gave better results, but still ended up donating blood to the process.

Well, in some places there are bag limits......

Oh, and here are two leather ones for everyone's viewing enjoyment.  The top one I picked up at the Baltimore Gun Show back when it was still in Baltimore.

These bags sometimes had a leather thong attached to sling about the shoulder like a horn.

I own a shooting pouch with a very small internal compartment, and have found the slung ball bag quite handy and useful. It also prevents cross contamination of lead as I use the opposite hand to draw patch and moisten in the mouth, and the other hand to produce a ball from the ball bag to load into the piece. I’m not so found of using the same hand for patching and ball, as the patching finds its way to the mouth and residual lead from handling the balls could eventually build up in the system, to produce its varied maladies over the course of living.
