« on: August 02, 2009, 03:33:52 AM »
Well I won the gun at Dixon`s last weekend and went today to shoot it I have nevered owned a muzzleloader that shot so well at twentyfive yards I was able to put five rounds in the center that you could cover with a quarter  did it all off hand ..when I shot off the bench the grouping was even better ...does anyone know where I can get some targets like they use at the shoots,...

your best bet is to go to a shoot and buy extra targets, Take them home and copy them. Ed

At your age and the way you shot that new piece you should be a first class recruit for your local club... Get in the flow young fella.  Not shootin in competition is like having sex alone! ::) :D

Where the heck is Mt Holly Springs?  Eastern Pa.??   Sounds like Jersey - We won't hold that against you                                   Much ;)

You need to join the Harrisburg Hunters and Anglers. We have black powder shoots at all times of the year and a 12 week woods walk competition in the winter.
There is a big shoot coming up on Aug 22 sponsered by the Pennsylvania Black Powder Federation. Come out and join us. We have a range for black powder only, and are located just outside of Harrisburg. It is one of the best if not the best gun club in the state.

eseabee1,
I have gone to the Union County Muzzleloader Association's Rifle Frolic Labor day weekend for about eighteen years.  The reason I won't be there this weekend would be the four day one way trip to get there.  but it is an easy hour and a half for you.  They have a range and camping area from which you can see NO electric lights at night.  There is no electricity on the grounds.  The smoke from the campfires is nectar and only candles light the evening.  Oh, sometimes if they have a candle shoot flames from flintlocks sparodically light the evening.  They have a really good woodswalk, extensive silohuette range and paper range.  Lots of good ole boys dress up funny and shoot all weekend.  Fun is the name of the game.  Find out about it and give them a try.

Slide on down 81 to Shippensburg, Chambersburg and St. Thomas area.  Plenty of front-stuffers down here.  Just inquire as to the where-abouts of the local ranges.

Yea, St. Thomas has shoots pretty regularly.  I used to help ramrod the shoots down at Greencastle and help set up the Conococheague Rendezvous.  There were a only a handful of us that did all the work as usual.  A few of us still get together to go deer hunting but there's no organized shooting there anymore.

What a small world!
I grew up at the St. Thomas Sportsman club.   In fact, I'm a life member and my grandfather has been the president of that organization for many years.  I'd be surprised if the same group of guys that I grew up around weren't still running the Fort McCord group.

I live in Carlisle now so I don't get down there as much as I would like but I might start trying to check it out a little more.
