Broken mainspring...

I broke the mainspring and stirrup link to an older L&R Durs Egg flintlock.  I thought that it would be a pretty easy fix, but the newer mainspring requires drilling for the mounting peg.  Also, from pictures on Track of the Wolf, the newer stirrup is not pinned to the tumbler like the older model lock.  Instead, pins are cast in the top of the stirrup and it simply fits into a radius at the top of the tumbler.  I am wondering how much work/skill is needed to fix the lock, or is it better to find a gunsmith who can repair it.  If I decide to not repair the lock myself, are there any recommendations for someone who can repair it?

Looks like I have the stirup but the spring I have is the newer one. You would have to drill the plate to make it fit.

I shall third a say to send it to the L&R people. They will know best, and set you up well with a spring “good and proper” so the use of your piece can be resumed.

Stretchman, here is pic of my durs egg at full cock, maybe you could carefully grind your tumbler to make newer spring and stirrup work if you can't get the earlier parts.

I ordered a mainspring from L&R today and discussed the possibility of using the newer designed stirrup with the old tumbler.  I was told that the tumbler could be modified for the new stirrup.  Luckily, I was able to buy an old stirrup from a fellow American Long Rifle member.  For whatever reason I just wanted to keep the lock as original as possible.  Once the parts arrive, the fix should be fairly simple. The newer main spring has the mounting peg in a different location, but a template will be provided, so drilling the lock plate shouldn’t be an issue.  I would like to thank everyone for their input.  Doing this 30 years ago was a-lot different.  If you didn’t have a good book or a friend that could help, you were kind of on your own.

I do not know about the Egg, but the small lock, I think a Manton the link has a front-back and up-down. If not correct something will break.
