Christian Clauss Jr.
« on: April 12, 2020, 02:13:39 AM »
Recently one of my students completed a rifle inspired by the work a not well known Lehigh Co. maker Christian Clauss Jr.   Eric was in my shop when a friend dropped by with a pair of Clauss rifles, one by the father and one by the son.  After handling and examining the rifles Eric fell in love with the slender light rifle by Clauss Jr.   We made an outline, measured and photographed the gun.  This is Eric's 6th. gun so he was pretty much on his own.  He wanted a light 40 cal. for small game hunting here in PA.  He made a few changes such as adding DST rather than the single on the original.  He added some appropriate carving, and used a darker stain than the original.  I think his end result looks pretty darn authentic.  Here are a few photos for your enjoyment and comments... Ron

Ron,
Tell Eric congratulations on a fine job representing a less know builder but obviously a very representative pice of the Lehigh school. I would love to see some pictures of the originals. Thanks for sharing this interesting rifle with us on the forum.

VERY interesting rifle.  Quite the high comb line as well.

I assume Christian is related somehow to Nathan Clause and his father (George ?) ?
I have been working on a Nathan Clause rifle on and off for about 5 years.

All the best
Paul
