Pistols of the day were belly guns, not target pistols.  Don't really need a rear site at 10-20 ft.

Dueling was conducted at 10 to 20 paces. Interesting way to avoid lawyers, hence the practice was outlawed. Defamation was swiftly adjudicated and the results were final. Since the practice was outlawed, testosterone levels have been in decline. Rear sights would have been helpful.

Yip:  on my recently finished Verner pistol, there is no rear sight on the original I used for inspiration, but I have the need to be able to hit a mark, so I sawed and filed one out and dovetailed it into the barrel.

There is an unsigned pistol attributed to Andrew Verner. that has a rear sight on it. It is  mounted just forward of the lock. You can find it in Early American Flintlockas, by Hartzler and Whisker.

This pistol has no rear sight, however it does have 2 dome-headed pins inset into the tang, just barely back from where it joints the barrel.
These two dome headed pins act as a rear sight. They are not visible from the side.
