Bullet Board Question / Thank you Mike Stoffel

Hello,

I would like to give a shout out and thank you to Mike Stoffel (oldtrvler61) for his help on sending me some very nice wood to make some bullet boards with. I have never made these before.

I do have a question?

Does anyone know what size drill is needed for a .54 cal hole, specifically a .530?

 I’ve always started a bullet board with a good hard piece of maple, or better yet some hard exotic wood used for flooring. I lay it out with a spade bit the size of the outer diameter of the barrel, just deep enough to make it easy to center without looking. Then I bore the hole for the bullet.

Push the PRB through to were it just prodtrudes and makes a bump, so it can be a easily centered on the bore.

I cut mine rough, axe and knife,  Homespun looking.
Some originals had the holes burned in them.  That works too.  I recall my grandfather burning holes in wood when he didn't have a set of drills.

Loading block/board  very handy items.
Mine are marked with X's for deer, and dots for lesser critters.

Please enlighten me, I am getting old and seems my brain works too slow. How do the X's and dots work on bullet boards? I have mine marked with caliber of the ball.

Ah Dennis!  I only use the 'x''s and such to keep a tally of game with different rifles. The loading boards being particular to only one rifle.
