Do any of you have experience shooting shot in smoothbore, full octagon barrel?

I have a 20 ya octagon barrel in a percussion gun. Patterns are about the same as my 20 ga double.

The shot has no idea what the outside  barrel contour is.

I had an octagon smooth barrel that we cut down and then turned octagon to round. Shoots just like any other 20 gauge.
