I have also put a shim of some type at the back of the flint.  Changes the angle of t he flint to more of a slicing action instead of a hammer hit.  It helps when you start seeing the impact notch on the frizzen face.  Seemed to help with that and the speed.  OR at least it made me feel better.  ;)  You can always give it a try.
