Removing wax build up
« on: April 16, 2020, 02:57:42 AM »
A friend has a rifle that has a lot of wax build up on it. He wants me to strip the wax off and just put an oil finish on it. The stock is in excellent shape, so I don't want to do any sanding on it, just strip and apply new finish. Any ideas on what I could use?

I've always used Varsol to remove wax.

Try the CCL cleaning and polishing compound sold by the Double Gun Journal. It works really well and you can apply oil finish after using it. Doesn't strip the old finish. The CCL Traditional English stock finish is the best stock finish I have ever used and I've tried all of them.
