First time I’ve ever seen a pic of one of your guns and thought, “I could do that...”  ;)

I am afraid mine would be dots of toilet paper like I was shaving again for the first time. Not even wanting to attempt this, and I have one I need to do this on.

That's interesting Mike, so where did you get the plugs? Were they from the same stock?
Thanks,
Rob

Yep Rob.

Other side of the stock has all these little cut-outs in it!  Sort of like skin grafting....

Bob M, and Eric K,

LOL!!!

Mike,

You have inspired me how to fix this one!

Jolly Jokers eh? :P If things go along the way they should all these patches will be disappeared.  I have all the patches in now....16 or 18 of them. This gun has super hard wood, otherwise I would have just pitched it. The patches come from a cut off of the stock blank. Having absolutely no curl this patch job is relatively easy to do since you don't have to line up the curls. There will be carving at the barrel tang which will hide the patches there and a sideplate will cover alot of what's on the side. You'll notice that all the glue lines are dark. Once the gun is stained those glue lines will disappear. You newbs should take notes....I have done alot of this in the past with great success. Just for historical reference, The KRA disc "Wes White photo Collection" Shows a gun in there with about a billion square patches in it....Bucks or Berks county gun I think...can't recall.
Some time ago I got a "deal" on stocks. Ended up 6 stocks for $300 shipped that would all "supposedly" make into guns. I have used two of them now, the first had some splits and checks I had to fix and of course this one has worms and was fixed with 5 hours of labor or in other words I have about $225 wrapped up in a plain maple stock. ::). If a deal is to good to pass up you should always pass it up!  ;D

You make distressed rifles, was there any consideration to just leave the burrows and make them part of the patina?

Or is it a commissioned rifle and just did not fit in the plan?

I don't mind worm holes that go straight in. I detest worm "tracks". This will have heavy wear and patina when it's done anyway.

Mike, nice work!
I'm sure you will remember these lyrics as we are nearly the same age.
"Patches I'm depending on you son"
"To pull the family through"
"My son, it all left up to you"

"Patches I'm depending on you son"
"I tried to do my best"
"It's up to you to do the rest"
 ;) 8) ;D

Apply copious quantities of hand (in this case finger) sanitizer, it will take your mind off the blood.

By the way what size bit do you use for finger drilling? Is that covered in the tutorial?  ;D
